Week of Prayer: Day Three

suzi phaneuf - Wednesday, January 06, 2010
Tonight's prayer gathering had a very specific focus—healing. Pastor Doug spoke of Mark 2:3-5, when the friends of a paralyzed man lowered him through the roof so that he could get to Jesus. He particularly noted verse 5, "When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.'" As those who wanted healing went up to the front to be prayed for by the pastors and elders, those still sitting in their seats were admonished to be like the friends in the story, praying and believing for the healing of those who went forward.

After the prayer time, Pastor Doug asked if any knew of someone who was ill and needed prayer but they weren't there, to stand and say the name of that person out loud. So many names were mentioned, and after that, we prayed for all those people who had someone standing for them. It truly was a powerful time.

It's hard to believe that after tonight, the week of prayer is more than half over! If you haven't already come out, it's not too late. Join us both Thursday and Friday nights at 7:00 pm in the Chapel.

Week of Prayer: Day Two

suzi phaneuf - Tuesday, January 05, 2010
On Tuesday night we focused our prayer time on PORTICO’s Student Ministries.

Pastor Rick and Pastor Johnny led us through a time of prayer for:
  • Schools where our students attend.
  • Student Ministries leaders.
  • 2010 Student Ministry missions efforts.
  • Our upcoming retreats.
Jim C., Andrew C. and a few others led out in a few powerful moments where we lifted the lives of our young people to God and asked for His protection, guidance, and Spirit to continue to shape them into fully devoted Christ followers.

Week of Prayer: Day One

suzi phaneuf - Tuesday, January 05, 2010
Tonight a large group gathered in the chapel and we began by praying prayers of confession seeking God’s forgiveness. Some led out in prayer and there was a great symphony of corporate prayer that rose throughout the evening. Some read Scriptures of encouragement.

The evening continued with prayer focused on churches and spiritual leadership in Streetsville and area. Many led out passionately seeking God for his blessing on churches in the area and their pastors and congregations that they would experience God and be effective in reaching people in their circles of influence. Also, there was concerted prayer that the church, the bride of Christ, would be all that we are called to be, salt and light to a community that needs Jesus.

The last part of the evening was spent seeking God on behalf of our nation's leaders, the leaders of our provinces and our municipal leaders. The meeting concluded with prayer and laying on of hands for those in attendance with needs.

Week of Prayer

suzi phaneuf - Sunday, January 03, 2010
"Prayer is not merely an occasional impulse to which we respond when
we are in trouble: prayer is a life attitude."

—Walter A. Mueller

Intuitively we know that prayer is an essential expression of our faith and life in Christ, yet most people admit that their prayer life dissipates under the constant pressure and demands of life.

This year, PORTICO is committed to helping you develop your personal prayer life by hosting the Starting Points Week of Prayer. Beginning on Monday, Jan 4 at 7:00 pm and continuing every evening {at the same time} through Friday, Jan 8, we invite you to join us in the Chapel for these prayer gatherings.

Each evening will feature a special prayer emphasis in conjunction with opportunities for personal and conversational prayer. Of particular interest will be our Wednesday evening prayer gathering, which will feature prayer for those in need of healing. We would also ask you to set aside a time of fasting and prayer on behalf of those who are in need of healing.

As Jesus finished praying in Luke 11, his disciples asked him, "Lord, teach us to pray..." It is our sincere desire that 2010 will be a year that sees our hearts consumed with the same passion.

Let's move forward in prayer, asking for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done!
